You see, tomorrow you start “big school”, the next chapter of the rest of your life.

As I kissed you goodnight just now a fleeting thought drifted into my mind. Have we done enough to prepare you for this moment in time? We changed the goalposts on you last year, and might have made the start of this rite of passage a little harder than it should be. But we’ve worked hard to help you feel at ease (and I’ve worked hard at hiding my nerves from you!) and Daddy and I are sure you will eventually discard your cloak of shyness and shine.

It’s a long tunnel to look down, schooling life, so let’s just take it a day at a time and tread this new path together. I’ll clasp your hand in mine and walk you to the gate that leads you onto the new world. I’ll then loosen the tether and unleash your beautiful spirit into the big wide world.
