Washing tips, that is…

But before you click away from the page in confusion, I ask for permission to bend your ears for a moment about that least loved room in your home: the laundry.

Let’s be realistic; washing clothes isn’t one of life’s grand pleasures but it is a necessity (as long as you dont enjoy looking dishevelled and smelling like stale kitty litter). Which is why the cool kids at Cold Power, who know that an App is where its at, have created a very user friendly online tool to not only help you be more energy efficient and economical, but also houses a very handy stain troubleshooting guide.

Because we all have a nemesis in our dirty clothes basket. Mine is my husband’s favourite crisp white business shirt that without fail comes home again with lovely discolouring to the sleeves, collar and cuffs – and that is just from working in an office environment!  The other is one of his polo work shirts, which, thanks to some unknown washing error on my part now fits me more snugly than it does him…

But now, by employing the use of both the Cold Power Wash Smarter App I can work out both the best time saving, money saving and sanity saving way to ease my washing woes.

So if you would like to win a 6 month supply of washing powder, as well as a $50 VISA voucher for good measure, all you have to do is download the app (you can do it here – off you go, I’ll wait….) and tell me (in 100 words or less) what your favourite ‘Colgate Smart Laundry Tip’ on the Cold Power Wash Smarter App, as well as make me feel better about my own clothes washing disasters buy sharing with me one of yours.

Entry is only open to Australian Residents – who are not employees of Cold Power/Colgate Palmolive – and of course unrelated family members (yes Mum that means you!) and you must leave a valid email address to be contacted on. By commenting you accept the Terms and Conditions for entering (which can be found in detail by clicking here). The competition will run until 23.59pm on Wednesday May 23, 2012.

My favourite tip: pre-treat stains before you wash. So sensible and easy, but sometimes I’ve forgotten to do it, and have had to wash the item again!

My washing disaster: Was in a rush to wash and dry the clothes before the rains started, and did the awful mistake of not checking the pockets… After the washing machine finished the load, to my horror I notice that ALL the clothes and towels had glitter on them, as my daughter had stuffed her jeans pockets with glitter so she could sprinkle “fairy dust” on her friends! Arrggg!

Pre treating stains is a must in this house hold!

My daughter was told her jacket was not warm enough for kinder so I sent her in her (sort of )new warmer pink Jacket. First day of wear it has come home completely covered in purple and black paint…Not Happy Jan!!!!

My favourite tip is pre-treat stains
Try and remove all the ‘yuck’ that remains
With three kids aged seven and under
The laundry’s a nightmare, is it any wonder?
There’s uniforms, pj’s, undies and jeans
In hues of blacks, greys, orange, greens!
When one round is over, another begins
My washing machine’s dizzy, oh how she spins!
It’s a never-ending cycle, worse in winter of course
Without a dryer, they need to dry on the horse.
The biggest disaster? when a tissue remains
And I’m left to remove the fluff, its the BIGGEST of pains!!!

Those tips are good, but I like my own tip: If you’re a mom and do a load of washing every stinking day, use your washing machine as a laundry basket too. Baby barfs of shirt. No worries, throw it in the washing machine. Let the laundry pile in there all day, then all you have to do the next morning (or over night, whenever your electricity rates are the lowest) is turn it on and let it go. No sorting, no arm fulls of washing to carry across the house whilst your almost 1 year old whinges at you while attempting to climb up your leg. Just a caution though, this only works if you wash with cold. Otherwise everything is gonna be pink!

Definitely pre-treating stains! My husband will spill all sorts of sauces, drinks on his business shirts and of course the twins are just the same.

We constantly have laundry disasters. it usually involves mixing coloureds with whites. Yes, the most common mistake will never be learned…sigh

i like pre-treating stains tip. My tip is to not let the pile get so big or sit there too long because then it gets really stinky and dealing with it is worse. I throw it in the machine when its dirt and then when its full I wash it. Plus no one does the wash but me so I know whats it in etc.

I always sort my colours but the Laundry Tip I love is to sort your laundry before you wash, as soil can travel from one garment to another so wash heavlily soiled garments seperatly.
    My biggest laundry disaster:
Miss 5 did Easter Craft at Kindy that involved Glitter Glue, I pop her tshirt and shorts into the wash and when its done I opened the lid to reveal a 70’s Disco fest, everything was glittered it took 7 washes to get everything clean, for months after I would still see the odd glisten of Glitter in my Disco machine.

I’m going to give the tip of making sure the powder is dissolved before putting the clothes in a go. I often get detergent residue on washed clothes but just assumed it was because I cram too many clothes in!

My biggest laundry disaster was a baby who suffered both reflux and eczema. Vomit and greasy lotion soaked clothes, towels, sheets…

Favourite tip – pre-treating tough stains. Us Mums know well what it means! 🙂
Disaster – giving my husband’s Iphone 4S a good wash. In the washing machine. With an extra rinse. He didn’t speak to me for days after this!

My favourite tip – use Cuddly ultra fabric softener to cut ironing time …haha every mother’s dream. It also keeps clothes smelling fresher and looking newer longer.

My disaster – hubby washing my new $900 hearing aid ,I’d put in zipper pocket while dashing in the rain from ParaOlympics to station. Then my hair was wet.Stuffed it completely.
He still doesn’t check for tissues or Mr 5’s merit award – that was last week.

My favourite tip is about pre-treating. So handy with all the stains we have to deal with.
The washing disaster – washing hubby’s shirts when he’d just returned from a foreign trip with his passport still in the top pocket. I put it on the radiator to dry out, but as you can imagine it was no longer usable. 🙁
