There was a time when the humble middle name had little purpose other than to be used when filling out official paperwork – or when shouting your child’s full name if they were in trouble. Often it would be the name of former family member, and because they were usually unfashionable, it was tucked away between your first name and surname and never to be spoken of again.
Fast forward to this century, though, and the middle name is no longer an afterthought. Parents are spending just as much time selecting the perfect middle name as they do the child’s first name, and their inspiration comes from many places.
