As the brilliant sunshine beat down upon Lone Pine, the last resting place of many Australians ANZAC Cove, and the record-breaking crowd sang along in full patriotic voice to songs such as Road To Gundagai in the distance, a man stood tall and began to make his way to the front of the crowd, followed promptly by another.
All bent over with age, and both displaying their various regalia of medals with dignified, quiet pride, they were responding to the emcee’s impromptu invitation that if there were any war veterans in attendance on this 25th day of April, they were welcome to sit in the reserved area with the invited dignitaries and special guests.
