Its no secret my life has been consumed by all things baby at present; and having such a large gap between my two has meant some of the necessities needed in phase 1 of parenthood have not stood the test of storage or time; namely Master H’s high-chair. So when I was approached to review (and give-away to one lucky NappyDaze reader!) the newly launched Steelcraft Snack Time Highchair (RRP $99) it was with great glee I freed myself from the manky old one that had been wallowing in storage and eagerly familiarised myself with the newest product on the market, launched this month.
Even though I knew I was a few months off needing this baby product, as soon as I saw its list of features I knew it had to be mine. You see I always had regrets about the old one we’d used – it was bulky, incredibly tricky to clean and, most annoying of all failed to convert into a toddler suitable state. (Oh yes, the things you learn AFTER you’ve had the test run with the first child…!) The removable legs mean that down the track it converts into this convenient (and cool!) little number:
Of course, when you bring together inquisitive babies attempting to master the art of eating it is always a recipe for mess. But the handy hygienic traits of the Steelcraft Snack Time Highchair of a 3 position adjustable and removable tray, a snap on easy clean second tray, as well as a detachable, easy to clean vinyl seat, my sanitation and spotlessness worries were being assuaged. Sure, it will always be the one baby item guaranteed to get filthy with every feed, but these factors will help fellow perfectionists like me feel more at ease with their cleanliness concerns.
It’s other fancy features include:
- Seat support crotch which ensures your child is strapped securely in place in high-chair as well as a five point safety harness
- Additional padded insert for when your child is older
- For those poor on storage space it has a basket for items such as bibs, bottles etc and also folds flat so it wont become the unwanted centrepiece of your kitchen

So, the thing I loathe the most is how hard the thing is to clean! Tiny crevices and creases where all sorts of mushed food hides! Not to mention the bulkiness, this thing takes up the best part of a metre square and we don’t use half the features! This snack time highchair I think is ideal, for ALL meals! Small, compact and does the job!!
Sooooo,
I am not real sure it the FLOOR counts as a high chair? But beegeebers i am fed up with it.I have to vacume after EVERY meal! wHAT MUMMY HAS TIME FOR THAT?? Need a high chair oh so desperatly!

That it is heavy and bulky. That there are a million tiny little crevices that my darling 18 month old fills up with food. That my bright idea of taking it outside to hose down on the lawn resulted in the legs of the chair filling up with water and then slowly leaked onto the carpet for an hour until I discovered the wet patches. And despite the fact that I bought a high chair cover, food and water somehow still gets in underneath the plastic liner, where it quickly festers and becomes mouldy in the tropical heat, and I only ever realise when I get a whiff of the stench…

Watching how fast our baby grow, I regretted not investing in a better highchair that can convert to a toddler seat. Living in a tiny apartment, the height adjustable feature will attract me most!
The highchair I had was horrible it would never be 100% clean and you would lift the cover up and there would be more mess. YUCK. It got the better of me one day I took it outside to hose it off and it still had water coming out of it a week later π
Would love the Steelcraft highchair for baby number 3 due in 3 weeks π

My ” baby” is just out of a highchair at 16 months. I hate the cleaning part of stuck bits of veggies! I would love to chair to gift to my sister who after ten years of trying is finally pregnant!
How tricky they are to clean! There are just too many gaps and spaces where food gets stuck. We recently pulled out our highchair from storage for baby no.4 and it was covered in mould despite the fact I cleaned it properly….so it was goodbye to that highchair on hard rubbish day…and now we are highchair-less. π
My highchair was secondhand when I got it for my daughter who is about to turn 7 so it’s lived a good life although it’s in a sorry state now! My son also used it and now my third child aged 1 is using it and I recently discovered squashed banana, sultanas and whatever else under the cracked vinyl coating and into the layer of padding. So besides having become a major health hazard, it’s now impossible to clean properly. I need to look at getting a new highchair as we use it for every meal and snacktime at home, so our little man can sit near the rest of the family at meal times. I also need a highchair to prevent food messes throughout the house. Please choose me to review your highchair – Please!
I’m not sure where I can enter my email address without it being posted with my comment.
So just in case I’m the very lucky winner of the highchair, I’m a liker on your facebook page so could be contacted via facebook
Thanks
The one I have is a second hand one, it has bits and pieces of rips in the vinyl which I have patched with a lovely contrasting coloured tape!!! This new one is fantastic, much nicer to sit in, nicer to look at, and I wouldn’t need to hide it in a bedroom when people come over!

It’s stained because it’s a hand me down from 3 users!
Oh let me tell you the ways I loathe our current highchair! It’s huge, bulky and on wheels. My son loves to push it around the kitchen so I have to lock the wheels. Then I forget I have locked them and go to move it to clean it and because its so heavy it just yanks my arm. Plus don’t get me started on how the brake on one of the wheels sets easily as it rubs against the table leg so as I go to move it, the thing just goes in circle with one brake locked and the other not. The thing (as I’ve named it) is also really padded for comfort, something the manufacture probably thought was a great idea but it just means more folds in the cover and more places for food to hide. As I go to clean the thing I have to pull every padded crease apart to get all the yucky, mashed food that my son has decided to smear all over it. With our tiny eat in kitchen I was foolish to buy such a huge and bulky highchair; it just takes up so much room and the first thing you notice when you walk into the room. I would love to win this amazing, unobtrusive highchair.
Bits of spaghetti,
Crumbs from vegemite toast,
Small dried squashed grapes,
The remains of a roast,
My sweet little girl,
Seems to love a lot,
Hiding bits of food,
In her highchair’s special hiding spots,
Oh yes she has many,
The seat cover she can lift,
And hide in its cevices,
A special surprise gift,
Why did they add in,
A seat with breathing holes?,
I’m sure it’s to drive me nuts,
When she upturns her bowl,
And in between the bars,
I swear it looks like something from Mars,
Nappy Daze please help me,
I need a Steelcraft highchair,
To stop me from going crazy!!
We decided to make do with an Ikea plastic high hair for our little girl, and although it was always SUPER easy to clean I can’t imagine it was very comfortable for her, it is definitely time to upgrade to something with padding!
Easy answer!! NO CHEST STRAPS!!!! And since my second is quite the Houdini, this is a serious hazard. We landed ourselves at the doctors just last week when she super-manned out of it and got some nasty bumps on her head. You promoted these features really well! Thanks for sharing!
I have an antique wooden high chair which I couldn’t really used until my daughter was over a year old because it was too roomy and didn’t have enough support. With bub number two on the way, I would love to have this Steelcraft one because I can use it as soon as my bub is sitting up from 5-6 months.
My first high-chair doesn’t adjust in any way which is a pain in the bum and the food tray doesn’t come off which means I can’t get to the food caught in the gap. Because I can’t remove the tray I also can’t get the highchair pushed right up to the dining table (as it is the same height as table and NON-ADJUSTABLE) and this leaves bub feeling a bit left out at the table. – Renae Elsie Georg rgeorg@facebook.com
I have put off buying one since baby has been born because they all look ridiculous to clean, way too big at the base or way too overpriced! This one looks just right!! Lauren kite – aka Goldilocks :p lauren.kite@facebook.com
I set fire to our high chair, by accident of course! But it always got so messy and was so hard to clean that I took the tray to the kitchen to wash, put it on the hotplates due to lack of space, then realised that I had left the gas on! Oops….
Sooo, we desperately need a new high chair. I am love the sound of the ease-of-clean of the Steelcraft Snack Time!
We have a MASSIVE highchair from when Miss4 was little – and it’s been in storage for ages…living in the tropics, mould manages to infest everything and I’m almost too scared to unwrap it!! Save me the pain, please!

I dont have a high chair, just fed mine in their play centre do dah, this highchair is awesome in that it lowers so u can feed bubba in loungeroom while watching tv etc and also be assured bubba is safer at that lower level if u had to pop to toilet etc and bubs was strapped in…..mandyjess@hotmail.com
Currently feeding baby boy who is 6 months old in a bumbo chair on the table. This doesn’t work well for us, he grabs everything around him that he can find, especaially his sisters’ homework.
So then we tried the walker, you can imagine the mess that made, not only does he throw his food on the floor, he stomps on it with his little feet. It was extremely cute the first time.
I know I need to buy a high chair, but I just didn’t know where to start. Your review was very helpful though.
The one thing I loathed about his sisters’ high chair was that when she was being tricky, she would try to slide out underneath the tray. I see that this high chair has the awesome feature of a plastic bit that sits between the legs to stop them pulling that trick out of the bag. Love it!
The highchair I have now we were given the tray does not come off and are unable to adjust it and the straps come over the back in a weird position. The highchair back is shaped like Winnie the Poohs head.
This new highchair would make things easier for me as bub can eat her tea in this and I can pop her in this while preparing tea.

How true is this review!!! Completely agree with you!!!
Our current chair is bulky and the centrepiece of not just my kitchen but my entire living room and boy talk about being hard to clean! I’m a bit like you when it comes to the cleanliness part by the sounds of it, I’m vacuuming the floor and chair every night and also poking and prodding to get into those silly little spaces with cloths and sprays. You would think people would have sorted it out by now!
Obviously Steelcraft have which brings my thoughts of these baby companies up…. I was starting to think these baby product designers had never had kids of their own!
Well my little old high chair was a hand-me-down which came with its own fair share of rips and hard to clean places. It’s also not so comfortable for bubs, so I have been eyeing of new streamlined chairs in the shops. This one looks perfect!
My first bub is 3 months old, so we are yet to use the highchair we have bought. It’s a cheap one from Ikea – lots of people recommended it. But – it doesn’t have any safety features or anything else.
We had a good look around, but didn’t like how so many highchairs were bulking and covered in padding – which couldn’t be taken off to clean! So many also had legs that stuck out everywhere so not only would it be difficult to fit around our table, I’m sure I’d be tripping over whenever I got near it.
I love the fact this Steelcraft highchair has the removable legs for when they’re older, or it would be great for picnics/camping. It also has the storage space, removable padding and the extra tray which sounds great.
My highchair has become quite unsafe lately…Master knows exactly how to stand up in it by himself in 1 second flat, even when he’s been fully strapped in :-/ !! The problem is the tray, it doesn’t go in close enough to him and he’s got too much room to move. I dread mealtimes, i’m paranoid he’s going to fall, but he’s not yet old enough to do without it :-(. I really regret not investing in a good highchair in the beginning. owiewan@hotmail.com
I’d love to win this highchair to replace the one at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. It must be at least 30 years old! Bulky, risk your fingers (and little tummies) each time you clip up the straps and the height of the tray can’t be adjusted at all. Our kids and our nephew all use the highchair at their house so it would be wonderful to have something there a lot safer and easier to use for everyone.

Cheap and nasty,
It wont fold up,
no room to put both plate and cup!
Hard to clean,
awkward straps,
tray too far
means food on laps!
I guess in short,
it drives us cranky,
and with months of use is more than manky!
Oh how we’d love to start anew
based on NappyDaze review!
Convertible, adjustable, snap on, easy,
Steelcraft Snack Time would make life breezy!
Great support with harness too,
easy clean, how we’d love you!

I feel like I have to hose the highchair down to get it cleaned properly so this would be a lifesaver for me! catrinamurray@yahoo.com.au
Cleaning is a nightmare as well as how bulky the one I currently have is! I love that the Steelcraft Snack Time has removable legs so it can convert to a more toddler friendly chair. My boys would be sooo much happier in it! missycoafield@gmail.com
Loathing the mess that stays there months on end. Cleaning is a nightmare that never goes away! Tray surfing is a commonality. The harness never keeps baby secure. Loving the secure 5 point harness in this unit to keep baby safe. Also the easy to clean factor and the storage compartment is a huge plus

I hate my current high chair because it is so big and heavy that getting it from the kitchen to where we eat in the dining room is such a full scale event. When hubby isn’t home sometime bub has to sit in the doorway instead of at the table with the rest of us.

my high chair is 22 years old and done a mile or two its small and does its job but baby cannot move to much or shit comftable i hate that i carnt put things on the front of it as its so small the tray if i leave a bowl there thats all that fits and she always knocks it to the floor and the food i hate cleaning it out of the carpet we need a chair where she can sit and enjoy eating in it that can be washed when need’d and the food tray underneath is the best thing ive seen in a long time and the chair can be used as a little chair for her not just eating in this would be great to sit her at a little table for drawing and play dough and so many other things and she would be able to just stand up not scream to be tacken out and put down this chair is amazing and its uses so good and helpful to any mother new or old
mine is extremely hard to clean so I have to pull it apart every day and put it in the washing machine which can be a pane because it doesn’t dry very quickly either. arballantyne@dodo.com.au
I have a 6month old who has just started eating solids, I dont actually have a high chair because everytime I look at them in the shops they’re, a)too expensive b)big and bulky c) heavy and not easily stored (I dont have a lot of room in my kitchen dining area) d) my little man seems to just flop in them as they are very wide) e) not very neutral and attractive to my eye (this is my first baby and I want to buy products that I can use again, I also take care of what I have and know that I can hand items such as highchairs down to my sister when she starts her family so I want to buy neutral colours and I want them to look modern so they dont go out of date!)
I am very much liking the steel craft snack time highchair, it looks fantastic, perfect for small areas, its neutral (will suit all colour schemes and gender) it looks modern and comfortable. safety features are present, and its looks durable, and easy to clean.
This would make mealtimes easier as I definately need a highchair…at the moment using his bumbo is fantastic as he fits perfectly in it and I can put it anywhere in the house to feed him, but lets face it he is going to grow out of it (very soon) and this highchair from steelcraft seems like it would get the job done!

I absolutely LOATHE the fact that the one I have is impossoble to clean. My first daughter is now 2.5 yo andno longer uses it but I also have a 3mo now and she will be in it soon enough, as cannot justify buying another. I actually cut the padded sit out of it because otherwise it just could not be cleaned propely, such a stupid design! This one would make mealtimes soooo much easier as I start introducing my new little girl to solids in a few months as she would have a nice , comfy seat to get relaxed and cooperative (please god lol) ready for her very first mouthfuls, up there at the family table – and I would’t have a hideous job trying to clean up the inevitable mess at same time as cleaning up after my very messy eater toddler on her booster chair opposite her sister! Thanks for the chanc I would be beyond delighted if I could get my hands on a new high chair π
p.s. themindfulmum@gmail.com π
After three messy toddlers our highchairs had its day.
Broken clips that now don’t hold on the tray.
Forced to tape it on and push our toddler down.
Rips in the fabric cover, making me frown.
Yellowing plastic, the height adjustments broken down.
Poor ‘Little Miss’ forced to eat close to the ground.
Food morsels seem to hide in new crevices.
We really need to update for our neglected ‘Little Miss’.
(Rachel Kriss-Newell, rm.newell@bigpond.com.au. thank you)
Our little Cooper has Cerebral Palsy and with hardly any control with his legs we have a hell of a time getting him in and out of his highchair
the thing I loathe the most is the legs on most stick out and I always trip over them and trying to keep it clean a mum or nanna would find this a great high chair. wendy
I don’t like lots about our high chair, that was handed down to us after my nieces and nephews used it- the scratchy hole in the plastic, the wheels that don’t work sometimes so I stub my toe, the food that catches in all the crevices, and that the tray can’t be adjusted. But what I really LOATHE is that I can never line up the pins in the tray and the high chair. It takes forever for me to put the tray on as they never seem to match. Sure makes a very stressful dinner time! russellcathryn at yahoo dot com.au
i loathe that the highchair i’m using for bub only has 1 height position and hurts my back while trying to reach to feed bub…..the steelcraft snack time highchairs adjustable heights will make it alot easier and comfortable to feed my son!
The thing I hate most about my current high chair which is recycled from baby number 1 is that it is so big and bulky, that my 10 month old can’t even see over the tray making it pretty much unusable. We had the same problem with baby number 1. It wasn’t until he was around 14-15 months that he was big enough to be tall enough to use the tray. The bulkiness also prevents the chair from being pushed up against the kitchen table meaning poor baby can’t join the family at meal times!
sarah@jcwebdesign.com.au
Hmm where to start!
Firstly as everyone else has pointed out most high chairs are impossible to get clean!! When we got rid of ours i pulled it apart and was horrified by the amount of food still stuck underneath that i could never get to.
It was also so big and bulky and couldn’t be put anywhere. Can’t remember the amount of times i nearly went flying after tripping over it or kicked my toes on it!
The biggest problem i think was that i quickly found out how easy for the little one to slide out underneath the tray as there was nothing to stop him. Even with the straps on whenever i turned my back he’d make a break for it! This was made worse by the non-adjustable tray which was too far out.
All in all it was a pretty crappy chair lol and made meal times a lot of fun! (insert sarcastic tone).
The Steelcraft chair would have all my problems covered with it’s seat support crotch and safety harness, adjustable tray, foldaway design and easy to clean tray and detachable seat.
It sounds like a dream come true!!
(email mtay1480@hotmail.com)
The very expensive and useless nordic design highchair shall remain nameless; where extras like harness support for babies and seat covers are all expensive extras that I was forced to buy. But the most important missing feature of this fancy schmanzy highchair is that fact that it has no tray table, what was I thinking “NO TRAY TABLE” states everyone who walks into the house.
So hence food everywhere, orange stains that don’t come out in the wash and regret on my part that the Steelcraft Snack time was not invented earlier.
Kindly HELP Nappy Daze so i don’t have to hear my husband say ‘I told you so!’.
Mealtime at my place is like a war zone. Cleaning the highchair after my little one has a meal/snack is such a hair pulling task! Those small crevasses are hard to get to, sometimes I just want to take it out the back and just hose it down.
With the Steelcraft Snack Time Highchair my sanity will be saved, cleaning a highchair won’t be as hard as it use to be, and I can have more time creating memories with my little one.
Also I love the fact the it could be converted into a toddler seat!

My Mothercare brand highchair has binded lining and the binding gets filthy on the side, it’s almost impossible to get it clean.
I loved my old Steelcraft one, I’d still be using it but the tray is loose and because it’s more then 10 years old Steelcraft couldn’t help me locate a replacement tray. I can’t bear to part with my Steelcraft one anyway!
well first of all my highchair is old, like 10 yrs old and it’s missing one of the buckle straps. We’re expecting our 4th soon so we could really use a new one
