Just like having a masked superhero sneak up on you while you are just trying to enjoy your toast, for some, the thought of looking into life insurance can leave you crouched on the edge of your seat, cowering and crying in terror.
But now, thanks to the establishment of the Australian Life Insurance Movement it need not be an encounter fraught with fear!
Created to both raise awareness about the under-insurance issue we face in our country, as well to ensure rectifying this situation is easy, the Australian Life Insurance Movement aims to educate Aussies against the myth that this type of protection is not as important as covering your car or contents.
The stats are staggering – nearly 50% of people have difficulty understanding insurance terms and gathering unbiased information and many don’t understand how much insurance cover they actually need. For example the average death cover taken out is $189,000 yet the average amount actuallly required is $431,000! Just as scary is the reality that 1/3 of super fund members are oblivious to the fact their funds offer insurance cover and that 1 in 2 industry fund members were underinsured by $100,000 or more.
It is an alarming picture painted and I admit I’m one who has been guilty of enjoying an ostrich-like existence on this matter. Burying my head in the sand has been the solution to any uncomfortable subjects that creep up in everyday life, such as death. Not wanting to dwell on the realities that could occur in the aftermath of losing my husband though could well cost me more than simply a devastated heart.
So I hope you, like me, will no longer let the thought of looking into Life Insurance unnecessarily scare you. Much like the masked superhero above, it’s intended purpose is to be your saviour in distressing times and need not be feared.
And while death is sadly inevitable, the financial strain does not have to be. Take the time to visit the life insurancecalculator from Life Insurance Finder and then compare life insurance plans to find the right option for you.
Please, leave your loved ones a legacy that does not involve unwanted financial burdens and be your family’s superhero long after you’re gone.
I am participating in the LIFE Awareness campaign. I received a VISA gift card for this post courtesy of Life Insurance Finder via Digital Parents Collective. I am also in the running to win an iPad3. As always, all opinions are purely my own.
