We are about to hit upon an historic moment in this house soon – my son’s first official trip to the movies! The sequel to Disney/Pixar’s smash hit Cars 2 revs its way into cinemas June 23, and my son, dear readers, who has been obsessed with Lightning McQueen, Mater & co for over a year now, is in full throttle excitement mode at this upcoming milestone.
The reason it is our “official” first movie, is because I did have one disastrous attempt at taking my child to a theatre back when he was a hyperactive 8 month old. Let’s just say because the Pension doesn’t pay enough in this country, senior citizens also use the “Mums’n’Bubs” sessions to catch themselves a much cheaper flick. And the vast majority of them (who filled the cinema almost!) did not take too kindly to my inquisitive infant who insisted on hiking himself up on their chairs and thrusting pudgy fists out towards their candy bar treats.
Then there was the fact baby Master H wanted to explore his newly acquired skill of crawling. What better place to feel the need for speed than a slowly reclining slope. And due to the fact he was a “bum in the air” type crawler, it was a rather conspicuous sight seeing his bottom barrelling down the aisle and back again.
Needless to say, we lasted 10 minutes into the film before my stress levels sky rocketed. I put the experience (and the cost) down as an experimental donation to the Hoyts Corporation.
2 years on from this disastrous film dalliance we are ready to tackle a trip to the big screen again. This time will be different in many significant ways. I will have back up, in the form of the husband; I will have Harrison’s best buddy and family along for the fun. Most crucial of all, I will have him at a movie he ACTUALLY wants to see! And it will not be jam packed with tight ass older people who hate babies.
And thanks to the cool kids at Nuffnang, all bloggers who create awareness about this movie score themselves a free family pass to take in the flick that will be the hit of the upcoming school holidays!!
While we have had the pleasure of COUNTLESS viewing of the preview, if you haven’t seen it, check it out above. Its bound to give all ages a giggle or two!
So all that there is left to say is ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Roll on opening credits to Cars 2 – Master H’s first major movie going experience!

Good Luck Donna – hopefully it’s entertaining enough to keep him GLUED to the seat (and you’ll enjoy it then too!).
Let us know how you go. Miss Four is still a bit antsy but Cars should do the job in your case.
We have been counting down the days to our ‘big watch’ of Cars 2. But I never attempted a family movie until my children were each 4 almost 5. x
